Who am I?
Hi, I’m Anna, a fully qualified proofreader and proof-editor with a keen eye for detail and a passion for polished, powerful writing.
As a member and trained professional of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) – an industry authority promoting excellence in English-language editing – I have built up an excellent understanding of how to deal with grammar, layout, style and consistency issues whilst maintaining the integrity of your text. Through my training I have handled complex and specialised material that has included illustrations, tables, notes and references, so I am well-equipped to take care of the various elements that may be included in your content.
My experience spans multiple industries, including technical, business and creative writing. Some recent examples of those I have worked with include:
- An oil and gas geohazards business, proofreading technical reports to ensure accuracy and professionalism.
- An estate agency, refining property listings and marketing materials for clarity and impact.
- An independent author, proof-editing their novella to enhance readability and flow.

As a writer myself, I understand the effort that goes into crafting content and the importance of a second pair of eyes to refine the text while preserving the integrity of the author’s unique voice. My goal is to ensure that your writing is clear, accurate and engaging – without losing what makes it yours.

Why Me and Not ChatGPT?
I know what some of you may be thinking: why spend money on a professional proofreader when I can cut costs by using AI to check or improve my work?
While AI technology is indeed a valuable tool that can help correct basic spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes, it cannot fully replace a human proofreader. AI lacks the nuanced understanding of context, tone and authorial intent that a skilled proofreader brings to a text. This can lead to AI missing errors (for instance, if a word is spelt correctly but is not the correct word in the context of the sentence) or unintentionally introducing new errors by making incorrect assumptions. In contrast, a professional proofreader will apply critical thinking, industry knowledge and experience to refine text with accuracy and precision.
Unlike AI, a professional proofreader will not just look at basic spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes but will also flag any layout, style and consistency issues, cross-check necessary elements, test any links and carry out basic fact-checking. (ChatGPT will not catch if your business contact details are wrong in your marketing material, but I will!) At the same time, we ensure that the writing maintains its intended meaning, emotional impact and voice. Chatbots also require carefully considered prompts to produce your desired results, and this can be more time consuming than you might think. With me on your team, however, you can leave all the hassle to me while you get on with other tasks and engagements.
Now, while I’m sure that AI technology will continue to advance, a human proofreader will always have the edge in recognising subtle ambiguities, inconsistencies and cultural sensitivities. In short, AI is a useful tool, but a human proofreader remains essential for high-quality, professional, polished writing.
